Postdoctoral Fellow, Mass Spectrometry Imaging - Illinois

Introduction (Program Overview):
To be successful in our goals as an organization, AbbVie needs outstanding individuals willing to challenge themselves to find the best solutions for our patients.
The AbbVie Postdoc Program is one way we are doing just that.
AbbVie Postdoctoral Fellows serve as technical experts who investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods / techniques to address critical project needs.
Participants continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes, read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments, and demonstrate mastery of a broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.
The Postdoctoral Program is designed for true investigational and experimental research.
Participants will be mentored by renowned industry scientists and collaborators at AbbVie and focus on delivering cutting-edge advancements in Discovery, Development Sciences, and BioPharma.
This enriching training program offers a balance of structured learning and work experience which fosters a learning environment to advance individual development, and offers accessibility to high-level knowledge-building across the drug development continuum.
We are seeking scientists from key U.
S.
-based academic institutions within preferred areas of science for this unique 2-3 year assignment.
Participants will build a solid career foundation in the pharmaceutical industry while building the AbbVie brand as an employer of choice for scientific talent.
Role Overview:
Understanding the biodistribution, metabolism, and accumulation of drugs in the body is a fundamental of pharmaceutical research and development.
Most biological processes in the body, including drug interactions, deal with molecular associations and dynamic spatial redistribution of molecules.
The importance of tissue distribution and quantitation is linked to many aspects of drug development including safety assessment, metabolism, drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacology.
Mass Spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a powerful tool to determine spatial distribution of compounds on tissues.
The Drug Metabolism and Disposition group (DMD) has an open Post-Doctoral position for MSI.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the utilization and advancement of MSI technology in the pharmaceutical industry.
The candidate will collaborate across various disciplines within AbbVie including DMPK, chemistry, biology, toxicology, pathology, clinical and regulatory to support tissue distribution.
The successful candidate will pursue several research initiatives that will enhance the utility of MSI for tissue distribution and understanding of safety:
1) Increase the sensitivity of imaging by utilizing novel ion sources and targeted imaging methodologies to allow projects to be investigated when analytes fall below the current limit of detection; 2) Identify endogenous markers in various tissues (eye, liver, kidney, heart, etc.
) to provide a high confidence of assignment in tissue distribution analysis; 3) Investigate large molecule imaging methods and improved protocols to permit the distribution of ADCs, antibody, and anticancer agents to be more fully investigated by MS imaging.
The individual is expected to have a high level of practical experience in MSI, analytical method development, technology development and possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Develop a world-class scientific approach to MS imaging by implementing and developing tools and processes.
Design, perform, and interpret appropriate data from imaging studies for compounds distribution in tissues.
Leading scientific initiatives to improve MSI capabilities and combine other imaging techniques (histology, microscopy, and radio imaging) to support drug development.
Routinely operate MS instrumentation, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
Keep well-informed of literature; evaluate new methods, technologies, study designs, and equipment.
Generate new research strategies to effectively address the Postdoc project needs.
Collaborate with functional and technical experts to facilitate scientific achievement.
Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
Effectively write and communicate research materials.
Resolve research hurdles by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program.
Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences aligned with business objectives.
Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in maintaining scientific standards and safe laboratory practices.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
