Job Description: This position focuses on the maintenance and repair of all tooling used on the Rochester campus. We require a hands on approach to quickly diagnose issues, determine appropriate path forward and implement. Successful execution and a coordination of these activities between internal departments and external suppliers is critical. The tooling will include RTM injection molds and fixtures used for forming, inspection and trimming operations.
Responsibilities include:
o Assemble, and repair metallic molds/fixtures using machine tools, hand tools, and welding equipment in accordance with tool design drawing or specifications
o Set up and operation of metal working equipment (lathes, drills, manual mill, etc.)
o Polishing/benching of tooling surfaces to match surrounding finish
o Set up and use micrometers, height gages, calipers, etc.
o Diagnose tooling problems quickly and provide skills/path for correction
o Communicate/coordinate with operations and maintenance team for tooling repair
o Work with internal PM system (SAP) to initiate and track work orders
o Perform visual inspections as required by the PM system
o Work with operators, quality and safety personnel to proactively identify opportunities for efficient and safe operation of tooling.
o Assist in the engineering and development of tooling solutions
o Hands on resource available for tooling activities such as inspection, receiving, issue coordination.
o Intelligent interfacing with tooling suppliers and material suppliers at the direction of the Tooling Team Lead.
This job requires an individual with an excellent understanding of tooling used for molding and best practices for repair.
Experience/Education/Skills: Knowledge:
o 10
years of relevant experience in tooling repair.
o Knowledge of RTM, Autoclave, Assembly, and Machining tooling preferred
o Understanding of composites fabrication is a plus
o Basic knowledge of all relevant guidance documentation; ANSI, ASTM, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, etc.
o 2-year degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education at management's discretion.
o Special consideration will be given to applicants who also have experience or training in aerospace composites or textile manufacturing.
Skills:
o Use of manual inspection instruments.
o Capability to understand and interpret engineering drawings, with a solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Some engineering calculation may be required.
o Ability to perform complex precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions
o Ability to MIG and TIG weld highly desirable
o Familiarity with SolidWorks, Catia or UG
o Experience or demonstrated potential to create tool designs based on an understanding of the composite manufacturing process
o Fundamental knowledge of AutoCAD
o Ability to create, understand and interpret engineering drawings
